The success of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta was attributed to the contributions of various parties, including journalists and media teams, who covered and reported on all the events during the summit. Moreover, the journalist team's role is crucial in an international state event.

So, why are journalists' roles so crucial in international events? At the 43rd ASEAN Summit, journalists reported various results and agreements from dozens of state leaders meetings over three consecutive days. So it could be known to the wider community from their respective countries.

The journalists covering the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta are not only from Indonesia. Journalists from various countries, especially from Southeast Asia and other countries participating as guests in various ASEAN Summit meetings, covered the event. It was recorded that around 1,077 journalists from various countries came to Indonesia to cover the 43rd ASEAN Summit on 5-7 September 2023.

Thousands of journalists from various countries were well served during the 43rd ASEAN Summit. It was shown by the readiness of the Media Center at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), which was open 24 hours, complete with various facilities supporting the work of journalists in sending and disseminating news to each country.

Complete Facilities for Journalists

As we know, the meeting of countries' leaders lasted almost a full day with much coverage on the agenda. It was necessary to make the Media Center at the 43rd ASEAN Summit as comfortable as possible, even making the journalists covering it feel at home. The Ministry of Information and Communications (Kominfo) had prepared a room for the Media Center with a capacity of up to 2,500 people.

In addition, 240 computers were also available with a LAN network, an international broadcast distribution centre, ten media partner booths measuring 5x3 metres, and an audio-video editing booth supporting the speed of reporting by the journalist team.

The Media Center features a one-on-one studio, multi-format broadcast conversion, a media briefing room, a press conference area with a capacity of 300 people with five interpreters, two stand-up positions and webcast/live streaming units, a media lounge, a medical emergency room, and storage facilities.

However, these facilities only worked well with adequate internet speed, especially for events like the ASEAN Summit. For this reason, Kominfo is collaborating with Telkom to provide internet bandwidth with a capacity of up to 10 Gbps.

Besides the Media Center with complete facilities, the transportation of the journalist team was also very well taken care of. During the 43rd ASEAN Summit, free shuttle buses were provided at several pick-up points to transport journalists to the Media Center at the JCC, facilitating their mobility. It allows journalists from various countries to travel more comfortably, utilizing the provided electric buses.
