Belitung, Indonesia - "ASEAN's Vision must make its people say "I am proud to be a citizen of ASEAN"" said Ambassador Triansyah Djani, as Eminent Person Indonesia and Co-Chair, at the 7th Meeting of the ASEAN High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community's Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) in Belitung, 19-20 March 2023.
In this intensive 2-day deliberation, the ASEAN delegation shared the view that the post-2025 ASEAN vision must be ambitious, visionary, adaptive, strategic and conscious. "The vision of ASEAN must be bold and not shy, considering that ASEAN will become the world's 4th largest economy," added Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya, as Indonesia's High-Level Representative.
ASEAN Member States gathered to discuss the Vision for the future of ASEAN. The centrality and unity of ASEAN, the effectiveness of institutions and work processes, as well as the strengthening of the ASEAN Secretariat are several elements that are considered important to be maintained and developed.
Apart from being attended by Eminent Persons and High-Level Representatives from the ten ASEAN member countries, the Meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of ASEAN and a delegation from Timor-Leste as observers.
Indonesia and Malaysia will be the Co-Chairs of the HLTF-ACV Meeting for 2023. HLTF has been working for the past year to compile core elements of the ASEAN Community Post-2025 vision as well as recommendations for strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of ASEAN institutions. In this meeting in Belitung, the delegation also gathered inputs from four entities, namely the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the Economic Research Institution for ASEAN and East Asia.
