Pertamina Explores 9 Cooperation Potentials to Develop Green Infrastructure

Jakarta, 1 September 2023 – PT Pertamina (Persero) is exploring 9 potential collaborations as a tangible effort to develop green infrastructure at the flagship event, the ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum (AIPF): Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. The event is slated to take place in Jakarta, 5-6 September 2023.

In a written statement released on Friday, 1 September 2023, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said that Pertamina will play an active role in the ASEAN Summit 2023 flagship event.

The State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, together with State-Owned Enterprises, supports AIPF as the pillar of the epicentrum of economic growth in ASEAN through collaboration with global partners. "As a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) in the energy sector, Pertamina continues to strengthen environmentally friendly energy infrastructure and a more resilient business chain," he said.

The nine cooperation plans for green infrastructure development are not only related to energy, or oil and gas, but also include the development of supporting infrastructure for tourism industry.

In the energy sector, or oil and gas, Pertamina has prepared a development partnership to develop the infrastructure of the Kalibaru Integrated Green Terminal and Central capture Integrated Terminal Tapanuli. Apart from that, there is also potential cooperation in carbon capture and storage/carbon utilization and storage or CCU/CCUS, the Dumai-Siak gas pipeline network, and green hydrogen production and nature-based solutions.

The company's concrete steps in developing green infrastructure, said Fadjar, are not only carried out within Pertamina Group, but also with state-owned companies integrated into Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) in the development of electric vehicle (EV) battery factory.

"Pertamina continues to look for new business opportunities in the energy transition era by investing in strategic sectors, including supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem. This is important in order to overcome the energy trilemma, namely energy security, affordability and sustainability," said Fadjar.

Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target, by continuing to encourage programs that have a direct impact on achieving sustainable development goals. All of these efforts are in line with the implementation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) in all Pertamina's business lines and operations.

Previously, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury said that Indonesian President Joko Widodo and leaders from ASEAN countries will attend the AIPF opening ceremony.

"AIPF will also serve as an inclusive platform for the public and private sectors of ASEAN member and partner countries to engage in constructive discussions, identify real project potential, and promote collaboration in the Indo-Pacific," Pahala said in an online press conference entitled “Road to ASEAN Summit 2023”.

During a discussion with the theme "Concrete Collaboration to Realize ASEAN as Epicentrum of Growth", at West Merdeka Forum (FMB) 9 held on Friday, 18 August 2023, Pahala mentioned three priority issues of common interest. The first issue is green infrastructure and a resilient supply chain. Second, digital transformation and the creative economy, and the third is related to sustainable and innovative financing.

"Those three will be the main theme of AIPF 2023 project discussions and exhibitions," said Pahala. The Forum is also expected to strengthen connectivity between ASEAN and Indo-Pacific countries.

At AIPF 2023, Heads of State/Government will be the key speakers at panel discussions and talk shows. Several Industry and company leaders will also attend Project exhibitions and business matching. (Eko/Diana/Elvira)
