National Police Traffic Corps Prepares Escort Routes for  43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 Delegates

Jakarta, 29 August 2023 – The Indonesian National Police (Polri), together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), continues to prepare security and escort measures for the delegates of the 43rd ASEAN Summit scheduled to be held from 5—7 September 2023 in Jakarta.

The Director of Law Enforcement of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Police Brigadier General Aan Suhanan, requested that the commanding officers be familiar with all the routes that will be taken by the ASEAN Summit delegates.

"The security standard for the first route is one four-wheeled vehicle and two two-wheeled vehicles per  guest of state. The routes are prepared through coordination with the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres)," stated Aan Suhanan on Tuesday, 29 August 2023. 

The next step involves the procedure on ensuring the routes to be taken by the guests of state are secure and sterile. Flowing traffic must stop at an intersection to prevent vehicles from breaking through.

He emphasized that the security arrangement is not only about safeguarding the delegates routes but also protecting against other threats.

"Finally, we will equip personnel with equipmentincluding body cameras. I hope this TFG provides clear description to all relevant parties," he added.

Polri has also conducted a Tactical Floor Game (TFG) for the security and escort plan of the ASEAN Summit 2023 at the auditorium of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Monday, 28 August 2023. 

The TFG drill was attended by Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Police Inspector General Karyoto, Deputy Commander of Jakarta Military Region, Commander of Jayakarta Military District, and the South Jakarta Mayor representing the Acting Governor of Jakarta. (JR)

In a separate occasion, Commander of the Joint Regional Command I, Rear Admiral TNI Erwin S. Aldedharma, while reporting to the Chief of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, stated that the VVIP Security Operation for the president, vice president, and foreign dignitaries equivalent to heads of state or government will be conducted for nine days. It will start from 1—9 September2023 in the Jakarta area.

The security operation for VVIP activities will be deployed in tiers. The first tier is Ring 1 which is handled by the  Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres), while the second and third tiers are rings 2 and 3 which are managed by the regional forces.

Paspampres has also conducted a simulation for the security arrangement for foreign heads of state participating in the 43rd ASEAN Summit at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday, 28 August 2023.

The simulation was carried out to ensure the readiness of the personnel to escort the VVIP guests of state attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo is scheduled to open the 43rd ASEAN Summit. The Head of State will also lead 12 meetings, including the 43rd ASEAN Summit in both plenary and retreat sessions, the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-South Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, and the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit.

The president is also to lead the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS), and the 13th ASEAN-United Nations Summit. (Jhon Rico/Alex/TR)
