Jakarta, 29 August 2023 - The Government of Indonesia received appreciation at the 30th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting held at The Langham Ballroom, Jakarta, Tuesday, 29 August. Indonesia is considered to have contributed in driving positive transformation, promoting the interests of the ASEAN community, and remaining loyal to the spirit of the pillars of society.
The delegates who attended the meeting congratulated Indonesia for the achievement of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community in 2023 under the lead of Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
Based on the report at the ministerial level meeting, it was agreed to submit the socio-cultural community document and statement to the 43rd ASEAN Summit forum for it to adoptg 6 declarations and produce 23 output documents.
The socio-cultural community documents and statements focus on a number of issues, namely the protection of migrant workers, inclusive development for people with disabilities, gender equality and family development, early childhood care and education, strengthening social assistance, regional health structures, and promoting resilience to climate change.
It demonstrates ASEAN's strong commitment to working together to overcome emerging challenges and ensure that all parties benefit from regional integration.
The meeting was chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Muhadjir Effendy.
At the meeting, the Vietnamese delegation represented by the Vice Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi expressed his support for the community priorities set in the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship.
According to Nguyen Van Hoi, Vietnam is accelerating the implementation of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025 which is integrated with the national project to implement the goals of the ASEAN Cultural Community.
He added thatin overcoming problems such as pandemics, climate change, and also biodiversity loss, more coordinated efforts between member states are needed to encourage clean, green and sustainable growth.
In addition, in terms of human resources, with increasing trend of intraregional labor mobility, ASEAN will improve labor recognition mechanisms and processes, promote cooperation programs and trainings to improve qualifications, skills, and further enhance and guarantee the rights of migrant workers.
"This is also one of the important initiatives of the President of Indonesia in strengthening regional cooperation on the protection of migrant workers, which is strongly supported by Vietnam," he said.
Concluding the 30th ASCC meeting, the ministers/heads of delegates issued a joint statement and agreed on the contents of the report to be submitted to the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting at the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held on 5-7 September 2023. (Isma/Donna/Vira)
