Kemenparekraf Launches ASEAN Curriculum for Tourism Polytechnic

Makassar, Kominfo Newsroom - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) launched the ASEAN qualification scheme and the ASEAN MRT-TP curriculum fot the Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

"The Poltekpar team have put on all their hard work within the last few months to prepare a curriculum which is adjusted to the needs and provisions of ASEAN and we will complete it before the ASEAN Summit," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in Makassar, Wednesday (23/8/ 2023).

He said the ASEAN curriculum for the Poltekpar under Kemenparekraf has been  in accordance with the expectations. The formulation process has started before the ASEAN Summit takes place in Jakarta and Indonesia’s chairmanship.

Because of that, he continued, Makassar became a historical witness that the Poltekpar under Kemenparekraf had met the ASEAN standards. lts graduates would have high competence and be able to get wider employment opportunities, because they would receive international class competency standards.

"That’s our hope. The difference with the previous curriculum is that the more dominant use if English in the current curriculum. In addition, this is also more relevant to entrepreneurship," said the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, who was wearing a chef's shirt.

The hope is that chefs who graduate from Poltekpar can easily work with qualifications that are on par with the demands of industry in the ASEAN region.

The standardization of Poltekpar has been recognized as good and competent. However, the standards will still be increased to be on par with international standards, including ASEAN standards.

"That's why the challenge now is to prepare human resources to be able to have international competitiveness; and the Tourism Polytechnic students are being prepared," he said. (Suriani Mappong / Adi Blue / Elvira Inda Sari)
