Foreign Journalists Praise Excellent Service at ASEAN Summit Media Center

Jakarta, 6 September 2023 – Foreign journalists said they were satisfied with the service provided at the 43rd ASEAN Summit Media Center at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Convention Hall, Jakarta.

Kouch Vengsrun, for example, did not expect the Media Center to be equipped with facilities that are complete and beyond what he had imagined.

In fact, in the Cambodian journalist’s opinion, the media and journalists felt spoiled by the various services provided. Anything they needed was provided at the media center, including information.

Vengsrus is tasked with conveying news about the Southeast Asian countries’ summit to his country.

“It has great facilities, everything is well organized. I really appreciate it. The Media Center (of the 43rd ASEAN Summit) is very comfortable and everyone here is very friendly to us," said Kouch on Thursday (7/9/2023).

Apart from feeling spoiled by the various facilities, Kouch also appreciated the internet speed via WiFi and LAN network connections, which had been prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI) in collaboration with PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel).

He felt the computer and fast internet connection facilities at the Media Center and around the event locations during the 43rd ASEAN Summit was very helpful. "Everything is good," he said.

The food, according to Kouch, is also impressive. He admitted that he really enjoyed the free-flow of food, beverages, and refreshment of various dishes, which are served to support media crew performance. According to him, the taste of the food at the Media Center is suitable to his taste.

“I like all the food. It tastes similar to Cambodian food too. I really enjoyed it," he concluded.

Fast and Steady Internet

The 43rd ASEAN Summit’s Media Center internet service also received appreciation from journalists from Vietnam and Brunei Darussalam.

Radio Television Brunei journalist from Brunei Darussalam, Hamdi, admitted that internet speed at the ASEAN Summit Media Center met his needs. "The Internet in the Media Center is very fast and quite helpful for our work," he said.

Apart from the internet, Hamdi said that the officers were also very helpful with their service and friendliness. "We are grateful to the officers at the Media Center so that we can work well," he said.

A journalist from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Nguyen, also gave similar testimony. According to him, the internet at the ASEAN Summit Media Center is quite fast. Previously, the Director General for Information and Public Communication, Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI) Usman Kansong, stated that the The 43rd ASEAN Summit Media Center would be operating for a week, from 2 to 8 September 2023. The capacity of this area is 2,500 people. Adjusted to the number of registered journalists, it can accommodate 1,300 people, with additional media officials accompanying the delegation to the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

MCI presents a complete range of facilities that operate 24 hours a day to cater for the requirements of media partners. "Media crew members who have applied and registered can pick up their respective ID badges at the Media Center," said Usman.

Apart from the media center, the MCI has also prepared 240 LAN computer workstations supported by a 1.5 Gbps internet network from Telkom. Other facilities include international broadcast distribution center, 10 media partner office booths measuring 5 x 3 meters, as well as an audio video editing booth.

The Media Center features a one-on-one studio, multi-format broadcast conversion, a media briefing room, a press conference area with a capacity of 300 people with five interpreters, two stand-up position and webcast/live streaming units, a media lounge, a medical emergency room, and storage facilities.

MCI’s media center also prepares bilingual releases of Bahasa Indonesia and English, photos, video packages in two languages, clean feed broadcasts, bulletins, press briefings, and technical guidelines for journalists. "We provide a publication and distribution desk, a photocopy and stationery corner, several TV monitors, and several lots for SNG," explained Usman.

To reach the 43rd ASEAN Summit Media Center, media crew can take shuttle buses travelling to and  from hotels and public transportation stops around the JCC area.
