Jakarta, Kominfo Newsroom – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said all matters related to the convention of the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held in Jakarta, 5-7 September 2023, have been planned and prepared.
After attending the Commemoration of ASEAN's 56th Anniversary in Jakarta, Tuesday (Aug 8), President Jokowi explained that all preparations are expected to reach 100 percent ahead of the convention of the Southeast Asian bloc summit meeting in September 2023.
"Everything has been planned, has been prepared, and we hope that later at the ASEAN Summit everything will be 100 percent ready in September," said the Head of State.
When asked about attendance confirmation form the heads of states for non-ASEAN member countries, Jokowi commented that everything was still in progress. "(confirmation) is still on process," said President Jokowi.
Meanwhile, the attendance of the United States (US) President Joe Biden to the 43rd ASEAN Summit, according to Jokowi, is also still on confirmation.
"Everything is still in process, still processing the confirmation," said Jokowi.
Previously, at the 42nd Summit in Labuan Bajo of East Nusa Tenggara in May 2023, the Southeast Asian bloc summit was attended by eight ASEAN heads of state, ASEAN secretary general, and Timor Leste Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak.
Meanwhile, two ASEAN countries heads of states did not attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit, namely, Thailand and Myanmar.
During the commemoration of the 56th anniversary of ASEAN, this Tuesday, President Jokowi stated that Indonesia, as chairman of ASEAN, wants to lay a strong foundation so that the region is able to face challenges and respond to dynamics and play a central role.
"We realize that the situation in Myanmar is still a challenge. ASEAN's efforts to supportt Myanmar is continued through the Five-Point Consensus. However, we also have to realize that the situation can be resolved if there is a political will from all parts of Myanmar," said Jokowi, adding that ASEAN, as a large ship, must continue to move forward and sail.
"This big ship must not sink, because this is our responsibility for the hundreds of lives and people who are in it," Jokowi concluded. (Indra Arief Ant/TR)
