The Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign affairs, organized a series of Public Engagement activities, including the ASEAN Goes to School (AGTS) in Yogyakarta on 20-21 March 2023.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with the Education, Youth and Sports Office (Dikpora) of the DIY Provincial Government and the Yogyakarta City Government.
This activity aims to increase understanding of Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN, as well as bring ASEAN closer to the younger generation.
The series of activities began with the symbolic delivery of ASEAN teaching materials and history of Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN to the Head of the Education and Youth Service and 12 teacher representatives for elementary, middle, high school and vocational schools by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Hopefully ASEAN teaching materials can support in increasing Indonesian students' understanding of ASEAN and encourage a sense of ownership of the ASEAN community," said the Director of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yuliana Bahar.
Head of Education and Youth Service, Dr. Didik Wardaya SE, M.Pd, appreciates this activity and encourages teachers to be able to guide students in summarizing ASEAN knowledge with the abilities of their respective students.
The ASEAN Goes to School program was attended by around 600 students from 6 secondary schools in the city of Yogyakarta, namely SMPN 5, SMPN 6, SMAN 11, SMK 2, SMK 3, and SMA Budi Utama.
The students showed high enthusiasm in this activity by actively asking questions and being aware of issues surrounding ASEAN.
