Jakarta, 4 September 2023 – Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao is the second Head of State to arrive in Indonesia for the 43rd ASEAN Summit taking place on 5—7 September 2023 in Jakarta.
At approximately 8 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Monday, Xanana Gusmao arrived at the VVIP Terminal of Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten (4 September 2023), where he was greeted with a traditional dance.
Previously, Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown arrived at Soekarno Hatta Airport on Sunday (3 September 2023).
Eleven ASEAN countries, including Timor-Leste, and nine dialogue partner countries, namely South Korea, Japan, India, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia, and the United States of America will participate in the Summit.
The heads of state from partner countries attending the ASEAN Summit include United States Vice President Kamala Harris, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Indonesia also extended an invitation to Bangladesh, as chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Cook Islands, as chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF). In total, 22 countries will attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
Additionally, nine international organizations plan to attend, including the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Economic Forum, which will focus on economic issues.
