PUPR Ministry Upgrades Facilities in Labuan Bajo ahead of ASEAN Summit

Jakarta, Kominfo Newsroom The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry is upgrading several supporting infrastructure facilities in the Labuan Bajo Area and Tana Mori Area, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to support the 42nd ASEAN Summit (Summit) from 9 to 11 May 2023.

"Development in the Labuan Bajo Region and Tana Mori Region not only plays a role in supporting the 42nd ASEAN Summit but also improves the quality of tourism, the environment, and the region's sustainable economy," said PUPR Ministry's Director General of Cipta Karya, Diana Kusumastuti, in Jakarta, Tuesday (25/4/2023).

Diana said the improvement in facilities through the construction and greening of infrastructure at the venue for the summit demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to turning ASEAN into an area that has an essential role for the people, the region, and for the world.

"This is in accordance with the theme of Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN this time, namely ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth," she said.

The PUPR Ministry improved supporting facilities at SEZ Tana Mori through the Directorate General of Cipta Karya's NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) and Directorate General of Bina Marga's NTT National Road Implementation Center (BPJN).

The progress of improving supporting facilities in the Labuan Bajo area has reached 72.26 percent. At the same time, the progress of implementing the improvement of supporting facilities for the Tana Mori Area has reached 93.88 percent.

"At the moment of the 2023 Eid al-Fitr holiday, people take advantage of the Labuan Bajo waterfront area for sightseeing and also use it for Eid prayers on holidays," said Diana.

The PUPR Ministry has completed the Waterfront Marina Area, which President Jokowi inaugurated in July 2022, and Puncak Waringin, which the president inaugurated in October 2021. The two areas are also planned to be used as venues for a series of ASEAN Summit events in Labuan Bajo.

The ongoing construction in the Labuan Bajo Area includes the construction of the West Manggarai Police Headquarters, the arrangement of the Labuan Bajo Marina Promenade Zone 4, the improvement of the landscape quality of the Labuan Bajo road corridor, the renovation of the VVIP parking lot for the West Manggarai Regent's office, the reconditioning of the roads and sidewalks of Sp. Binongko -Sp.Sylvia (Jl. Waecicu), and median beautification for Jalan Yohanes Sehadun (in front of Komodo Airport).

In the meantime, the ongoing development in the Tana Mori area includes the construction of the Roundabout Beach Club, Pier Shelter, installation of geomats on the road corridors of the Tana Mori area, embellishment of roundabouts at the entrance to the ITDC area, and strengthening of slopes and stabilization of plants on the Labuan Bajo-Tana Mori road section which has been inaugurated President Jokowi on 14 March 2023.

The PUPR Ministry is also building the Munting Reservoir between Labuan Bajo to Tanamori in Warloka Village, Komodo District. The reservoir has a capacity of 159,481.10 m3 and an inundation area of 4.5 hectares, with the primary function of conserving and supporting tourism in the Labuan Bajo Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP); and the ASEAN Summit.
