Jakarta, 31 August 2023 – The Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahma sang a song titled “Akad”, popularized by a renowned Indonesian music group Payung Teduh, during the gala dinner of the 30th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) at the ballroom of Hotel Langham, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29 August 2023).
“I purposely invited Dato’ Roslan to sing the song on stage,” said the gala dinner’s Master of Ceremony (MC) Tantri Moerdopo to the Communications and Media Team of the 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 on Wednesday (30 August 2023).
The Indonesian song, performed by the Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, signifies unity and solidarity in the region towards achieving common goals.
The Secretary General sang the song wholeheartedly on stage. The song itself narrates the happiness of someone expressing their feelings and eagerness to marry their beloved.
The song “Akad”, written by former vocalist of Payung Teguh Mohammad Istiqamah Djamad, was once a top track for Indonesian youth in 2017.
Tantri recounted that the atmosphere immediately turned festive when Dato’ Roslan started singing the song fluently. The audience cheered loudly throughout the song.
“The audience was captivated by Dato’ Roslan’s performance, perhaps due to the familiar tunes and language,” Tantri said.
The one who ignited the flames of the delegates to perform on stage was Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy. He started by singing two songs, “Stuck on You” and “The Final Countdown”.
“Stuck on You” is a song popularized by Lionel Richie. This song portrays the feelings of love and togetherness. It has become one of the classic love songs and is often sung or played at various events.
“The Final Countdown” is a highly popular rock song by the Swedish band Europe. It was released in 1986.
Tantri also said that Muhadjir’s voice received appreciation from the attending delegates. As a result, the atmosphere became more friendly with many delegates joining the stage and sing during the dinner event.
