National Police to Use Electric Vehicles for ASEAN Summit Security

Jakarta, Kominfo Newsroom The Indonesian National Police (Polri) will use 115 electric vehicles for security operations during the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, 9 – 11 May 2023.

“There is a total of 115 vehicles. 35 of them are Hyundai Ioniq cars that will be focused on escorting state leaders and delegates," said West Manggarai Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ari Satmoko in Labuan Bajo on Monday (17 April 2023).

He said that 35 cars and 80 motorcycles have been transported by sea using KM Swarna Bahtera. “These electric vehicles arrived at the multipurpose terminal of Labuan Bajo Port on Sunday (16 April 2023) evening,” he said.

He explained that the 115 vehicles are placed at the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Unit Command Headquarters in Labuan Bajo.

He added that the electric vehicles are prepared for international escort and security purposes.

“We chose electric vehicles because they can reduce emissions,” he said.

In addition to the 35 Hyundai Ioniq cars produced in South Korea in 2022 that will be used for escorting purposes, there are 60 Zero DSR motorcycles for escort and 20 Niu Gova 3 motorcycles for patrol along with helmets, jackets, pants, shoes, and gloves from Zero SRFM.

“These vehicles will be used for escorting the delegates attending the ASEAN Summit,” he said.

The 2023 ASEAN Summit will be held twice. The first one will be held in Labuan Bajo on 9 – 11 March 2023 and the second one will be held in Jakarta in September.

The first meeting will only be attended by ASEAN member states. Partner countries, such as the United States, China, South Korea, and others will attend the summit in September in Jakarta. (Fransiska/Elvira/TR)
