Indonesia to Host Flagship Event ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF): Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) 2023

Jakarta, Kominfo Newsroom – Indonesia will hold  a flagship event, the ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum (AIPF): Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

The Flagship event will be held at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, on 5-6 September 2023, in parallel with the 43rd ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit. 

This statement was made by Deputy of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Pahala Mansyuri, on an online press conference of Road to ASEAN Summit 2023 which raised the theme “Tangible Cooperation to realize ASEAN as the Epicentrum of Growth”, by Forum Merdeka Barat (FMB) 9, Friday, 18 August.

President of the Republic of Indonesia and and Leaders from ASEAN Member States are scheduled to attend the opening ceremony. 

“The forum will serve as an inclusive platform for ASEAN member states and partners, mainly from the public and private sectors, to engage in constructive discussions, identify potential tangible projects, and promote collaboration in the Indo-Pacific,” said Pahala.

Pahala added that there are three major issues of the common interest, namely green infrastructure and resilient supply chains, digital transformation and creative economy, and sustainable and innovative financing.

“The three issues will take center-stage in the discussions and showcased project,” stated Pahala, adding that this inaugural forum is expected to build stronger connectivity between ASEAN countries and the Indo-Pacific.

The Forum will host Leaders’ level talks, panel discussions, and talk shows with captains of industry, projects showcasing, and business matchings. 

The Forum invites government and private sector leaders, representatives from international financial institutions (IFIs) and international organizations.

On this occasion, Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Minister also reaffirmed that ASEAN is one of the fastest growing regions in the world, with dynamic markets and productive populations. 

“Located in the heart of the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN is poised to become a center of economic activity in the coming decades,” stated him.

In order to maximize the economic opportunities offered by the region and beyond, as well as to maintain peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region, ASEAN Member States has adopted the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) in 2019.

The AOIP is an initiative that reinforces ASEAN-centered regional architecture so to strengthen and give it momentum to better face challenges and seize opportunities arising from the current and future regional and global environment. 

The AOIP views the Indo-Pacific as a closely integrated and interconnected region, that promotes dialogue and cooperation instead of rivalry and advances development and prosperity for all.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on 5—7 September 2023 will continue discussions on strengthening organizational institution to be able to address challenges within the next 20 years.

Indonesia is to lay the foundation for future ASEAN cooperation. In order to realize this, the institution and various working mechanisms will be continuously strengthened. (eko/TR/Elvira)
