Four Spirits of Indonesia’s ASEAN Leadership

Jakarta, May 12, 2023 – Indonesia's leadership at the 43rd ASEAN Summit contains four main spirits. Firstly, the importance to outline a long-term vision of the Region, and Indonesia will ensure that during the Summit that will take place on 5-7 September 2023.

The statement was conveyed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi during a media gathering with journalists which is organized back-to-back with the visit to the Media Center, to review its readiness to serve the 43rd ASEAN Summit journalist in Jakarta, on Monday (08/28/2023).

According to Foreign Minister, this is necessary and crucial because it will ensure sustainability and serve as the guideline for the future of ASEAN. "The second spirit is to strengthen ASEAN's resilience in facing the challenges of our time," said Retno.

While the third is to promote ASEAN as the center of economic growth. Retno also emphasized that Indonesia would highlight strengthening food security in the region as one of its important elements.

“This is in line with the theme of ASEAN in Indonesia’s chairmanship, namely 'ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’,” she said. 

And the last spirit is to realize the safe and peaceful Indo-Pacific l region. To achieve this, Indonesia will lead member countries to promote the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) to ASEAN partner countries at the upcoming Summit. 

Retno emphasized, during Indonesia’s leadership at this Summit, her party also initiated the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum Initiative which will be held in parallel with the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

 

43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 Media
On the same occasion, Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi stated that as many as 1,077 foreign and domestic journalists have registered to cover the 43rd ASEAN Summit. This data was obtained after the registration process for the summit was closed on  25 August 2023.

As of 26 August, it was recorded that the registered journalists came from 170 international media and 70 national media, including 326 foreign journalists, 37 Indonesia-based foreign journalists, and 524 Indonesian journalists, including the broadcasting media crews. 

“The arrangement for the upcoming ASEAN Summit is similar to that of the previous Summit. The Coverage will start from the arrival of State Leaders at the airport by media hosts which will be broadcast live at the media center.  As for the arrangement for media access to the plenary, gala dinner, and spouse program will be informed later,” said the Minister.

Based on Article 10 of Presidential Decree Number 5 of 2023 on National Committee for Indonesia‘s Chairmanship at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations of 2023, Minister of Communications and Informatics is in charge of the Communications, Media, and Public Relations Sector. This role includes providing a Media Center for the 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023.

“Through this meeting, I hope we’ll share vision and understanding in supporting the success of this event,” he stated.

Media that have registered and are accredited can later collect their ID Badge at the media center. 

"Registered media can collect their ID Badges at the media center," added Usman Kansong, Director General of Public Information and Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI). 

Usman also revealed that the 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 Media Center provided by the MCI is located at the Summit venue, namely Exhibition Hall B of the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). This Media Center has a capacity of up to 2,500 people and is scheduled to operate from 2—8 September 2023.

"The media center will be operating for 24 hours daily to meet the needs of our media partners," Usman explained.

To support the performance of journalists, the MCI has also prepared a Telkom internet network, 240 LAN workstation computers with a dedicated connection of 1.5 Gigabyte per second (Gbps). In addition, the media center also provides a number of other facilities such as dedicated international broadcast center distribution; 10 media partner booths measuring 5 x 3 meters; audio video editing booths; one-on-one studio, and multi-format broadcast conversion.

Other facilities include briefing room and press conference room with a capacity of 300 people and interpreter. 

The MCI’s Media Center will also provide dual-language press releases, photo and video pack, clean feed broadcast and 43rd ASEAN Summit 2023 bulletin. Apart from the Media Center, all related information can also be found on ASEANpedia on the link https://linktr.ee/aseanpedia. (Eko/US/TR/Elvira).
