Jakarta, 4 September 2023 – The Foreign Ministers of ASEAN agreed to recommend the ASEAN Concord IV for adoption at the 43rd ASEAN Summit meeting. The consensus was one of the outcomes of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) meeting in Jakarta (4 September).
The formulation of the ASEAN Concord IV was initiated by Indonesia and will serve as a foundation for the formulation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 to strengthen ASEAN to allow it to address future challenges.
"The challenges we are facing right now are already big enough to keep us struggling at times, but the challenges we are facing in the upcoming years would be even greater," said the Foreign Minister while chairing the ACC meeting.
She added that ASEAN must be willing to make bold decisions to continue progressing and remain relevant. Differences among members should not prevent ASEAN's progress.
For this reason, the 43rd Summit will also adopt decisions related to the acceleration of decision-making process in times of crisis and strengthening ASEAN's capacity to respond to new challenges.
At this meeting, ASEAN member countries expressed their appreciation for the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) performance. They agreed to provide in-principle support for the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 document.
The formulation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 began in 2023 under the HLTF on the ASEAN Community's Vision 2045 co-chaired by Indonesia and Malaysia and is to be adopted in 2025.
